Josefina Valenzuela Cerda

Writer & Filmmaker

"A genre-bending storyteller with a rebel heart and
a scholar's mind"

A multi-hyphenate writer & filmmaker for TV, film, stage and immersive media.

I craft dramas and dramedies where anti-heroines defy the script society wrote for them, grasping for the light of hope in the darkest places, raging when rage is forbidden, and emerging from chaos not polished but transformed.

I create imaginative worlds where you can escape and feel fully immersed. Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Horror, and Magical Realism bloom under the hands of a storyteller who devours genres, bends conventions, and dives deep into research.

With an MFA in Writing for Screen and Stage and a BA in Film and Media Directing, combined with extensive experience in development, on-set production, and post-production, I weave character-driven stories with a cinematic edge that prioritizes intimacy over spectacle.

I excavate pain without flinching, walking the fine line between tenderness and horror. I've written about haunted forests, colonial endeavors, secret societies, female monsters, and near-mythical women, while plotting air disasters, resurrecting Tolkien's legendarium with precision, and nerding out on fairy portals, historical garments, and forensic bugs.

I'm part artist,
part folklorist,
part  narrative technologist-

With a mother’s intuition, a world traveler’s eye, and a hunger to connect, I am now based in LA, fiercely carving my space in Hollywood, while staying true to my roots and -

Chasing the WILD, the WOUNDED, and the WOUNDROUS.
